Successful long-term conservation of the koala population inhabiting the Burleigh Ridge to the east of the Pacific Motorway in the City of Gold Coast LGA is an important aspect of Council's long-term koala management objectives.

We were contracted by Council to undertake a Population Viability Analysis (PVA) of the  Burleigh Ridge koala population, modelling baseline data derived from detailed surveys undertaken by Council officers over the last few years, as well as a number of different scenarios that examined the population's theoretical response to change. From this process we identified those factors which are required to be taken into account to ensure long-term survival of this historically iconic population can be identified and integrated into management.

Our final report was submitted to Council in April, 2020.
