In 2006 we were contracted by the then Gold Coast Council to undertake a koala habitat and population assessment across the Gold Coast LGA, including detailed studies in the Coombabah and Coomera-Pimpama areas. Amongst outcomes from this work were recommendations for dealing with the envisaged rapid urban expansion that was to occur in the Commera - Pimpama area.

In 2017/18 we were appointed by the Council of the City of Gold Coast to reassess the Coomera - Pimpama and Coombabah koala populations. Using our original sites, this work involved resampling of remaining bushland areas, creation of new meta-population models, provision of a population estimate, analysis of mortality records and some population viability analysis.

In 2018/19 we were again appointed to provide a comprehensive overview of the ecology and conservation status of the Gold Coast koalas. Amongst other things the results of this most recent project have confirmed the merits of Council's East Coomera koala translocation program as well as updating koala habitat mapping. Our draft report is currently (May 2019) being reviewed  by Council officers.
